BMW Rallye 3 Gloves
Simon and I always wear motorcycle gloves whenever we get on our bikes. Its just not worth taking the risk of loosing a handful (quite literally) of skin just to appear ‘cool’ or trying to keep cool, especially when riding in warm/hot weather.
Over the last 7-years we have chosen to wear the BMW Rallye gloves in the warmer weather. In fact we like to use them for as long as we can before our hands give out to the cold and we have to resort to our winter gloves. These gloves aren’t cheap and we have to buy these gloves just like everyone else. So whey did we choose them?
Design
We prefer the short cuff gloves and not gauntlets during our warm weather riding and these gloves have a neoprene cuff with Velcro fastener. Yep the Velcro does get attached to things when you take them off which can be a little annoying but we are happy with the short cuff as our riding suit arms are long enough to make up the difference to not leave a gap leaving you to suffer sun and wind burn around the wrist.
Materials
These gloves are made of an Elastic lightweight Mesh material on the back of the hand and between the fingers. This, along with the Knuckle protector, which is made of rigid plastic with a nice touch of colour and vent slots, provides maximum ventilation keeping our hands much cooler than most other summer gloves we have tried.
A pad spotted with nubs covers the thumb, index and middle fingers for increased grip and The kangaroo-leather on the palm is pure luxury. However A small downside it that the leather ‘runs’ when they get soaked, leaving ‘black hands’ but we have found this to happen with most gloves. It washes off easily enough and at the end of the day when you’re setting up camp after a long days ride the last thing you worry about is the colour of your hands!
We have ridden around 300,000km wearing these gloves and love not only the protection they provide but the length of time they last us: currently we find these gloves last us for around 2 years of day in and day out riding of, on average, 5 to 8 hours riding per day.
Size
They are absolutely true to size. I take a size 7, 7.5 and they fit perfectly...in fact they fit me like a glove! ?
