Left Costa Rica and headed into Nicaragua. Leaving Costa Rica was easy and what a great surprise the border in Nicaragua was. The Aduana and security payment officer was out and explaining what we needed to do before we’d even got off the bikes.

Aduana took 2 1/1 hours. They were all nice enough but customs had introduced a new computer system. I was told that I was the first person they’d processed using the system. The ‘security payment’ was US$12 per bike. Even the pot-holed roads weren’t too bad. A pretty good ride today.

Left La Cruz??? And arrived in Leon. Stopped for a beer and spoke to Stephan and Martin. Mark and Daisy said high there traveling on an Africa Twin.

Today we rode from Nicaragua to Honduras and into El Salvador.

Left Leon after picking up emails over breakfast. 100km out to the border on Ruta 12 up to Chinandega and the Nicaraguan – Honduras border. The exit from Nic was fast enough but getting into Honduras was a pain in the ass. We arrived at 12:30 and the Aduana was on lunch and the office locked. They came back at 1:35pm. They then spent 435 minutes filling out just three forms.

Shit it’s expensive to get a vehicle in. Weather you’re entering for weeks or like us just transiting for an hour ½ it’s going to cost US$40 per bike/car…yep 40 bucks. Here’s the breakdown: US$20 for ’running in’ which effectively means the right to use the roads.US$10 for the Aduana guy to complete the 9-A-1 form. It’s going to cost you another US$7 form the 9-A-1 itself and finally another US$1.50. We paid US$30 direct to the small bank desk and got our 9-A-1 form printed with an official stamp, this also acts as your receipt, which you need to keep as it’s what you show the police if you’re stopped. The other US$10 we paid into the small window for the remainder of the paperwork

We needed to get to the El Salvador border by 5pm because it closed. (The Lying …..Oops sorry… Lonely Planet again) We made it in 1 hour and 5 minutes only to find the border is open 24/7. Met a bunch of Mexican guys on BMW’s who’d been there 5 hours because one of them had lost his paperwork. Rode into the night and onto San Miguel. We finally found a hotel at around 8:30pm

Rode from San Miguel to Metapan. Stayed at Santa Fe hotel by the road. Went to the burger chain and had an instant meal….after traipsing around trying to find some ‘feminine hygiene’ thingies (!!) for Lisa…a bit of a problem in the smaller towns to find anything smaller than an elephant would need!!!
